Doctor Duped Of Rs 1 Crore In Telegram Film Rating Fraud

Online scams are increasingly prevalent in today’s society, manifesting in various ways such as call forwarding scams and job scams on messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. A recent case involved a 43-year-old doctor residing in Visar who fell victim to a movie rating reviews scam, resulting in a staggering loss of Rs 1 crore.

According to The Times of India, scammers contacted Visar’s doctor on Telegram on the pretext of offering money to review movies online. The message was sent by a user named “Hafiza@094”. According to the report, the man was able to earn Rs 830 in the first transaction by giving the movie 5 stars.

Next, the Telegram user asked the doctor to trick him into transferring Rs 9,900 to an unknown bank account to get a higher reward. Now, when he did this, his online ticket rating account showed that he received a whopping Rs 31,000 as commission income, but when he wanted to withdraw the said ‘commission’, the scammers asked him to deposit Rs 15,000. This cycle continued and eventually the ‘bounty’ became worth Rs 1.96 crore in a matter of days.

According to the Arnala police, the doctor deposited a total of Rs 1.09 crore hoping to recover his commission.

These types of scams are becoming more common – especially on social media. It’s important to be aware of when someone might be trying to take advantage of you, especially if they’re offering something that seems too good to be true. Always do your research and avoid responding to random messages or calls offering work or money for simple tasks.
